Tracy Letts was born on the 4th of July, 1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States and he was born to his mother Billie Letts, a College professor and to his father, Dennis Letts, an actor and he grew up with two brothers, Shawn Letts, a musician and Dana Letts and he was raised in Durant, Oklahoma.

Tracy Letts attended Durant High School and graduated in 1984, he later moved to Dallas, where he worked various odd jobs while also pursuing his acting career, at the age of 20, he relocated to Chicago, where he worked for 11 years at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
